THE REPUBLIC DAY

26th January is the Republic Day. It is a red letter day for India. It is on this day in 1950 that India became a sovereign Democratic Republic. On this day in 1950 India had its Constitution. Republic Day is celebrated all over the country with great enthusiasm and festivity. Processions are taken out, cultural programmes are held. It is a public holiday. The main function is held at the Rajpath near the India Gate in New Delhi. First of all, the Prime Minister visits the Amar Jawan Jyoti at the India Gate. He offers floral tribute to the dead Indian soldiers who laid down their lives for their country. Then begins a very colourful procession with three armed forces. President takes the salute. The day reminds us of many great patriots who sacrificed their lives to win freedom.
